Deficit-based thinking emphasizes weaknesses and problems over individual and organizational strengths.  Deficit-based thinking plays to the idea that there is little difference between the physical and social world when it comes to our ability to fix and resolve human dilemmas.  When you are a deficit-based thinker, you search for the reason or cause of the problem, believing that progress can only be made by overcoming the challenges faced.
